August 13 is globally observed as a world Organ Donation Day every year. Donating organs is considered a noble cause as it amounts to leasing a person a new life. The objective behind celebrating World Organ Donation Day is to address the myths related to donating organs. A person can save up to 8 precious lives from chronic illnesses if he or she pledges to donate lungs, kidneys, liver, bone marrow and stem cells. Indian government is striving to spread awareness amongst people related to this noble act and to encourage them to do the same.
Aykai Hospital and NGO GLODUS organised an awareness campaign on this occasion. Students of DAV BRS NAGAR under the able guidance of Principal J.K.Sidhu participated in this campaign and presented heart touching choreographies and dances highlighting the need for organ donation at Pavilion Mall ,West End Mall and Kipps Market .The presentations received huge applause from the teary eyed audiences who also pledged to donate their organs.
Transplant Surgeon Dr. B.S Aulakh, Chairman of Aykai Hospital and President of NGO GLODAS addressed the audience about the need for organ donation, likely donors and some do's and don't that must be adhered to by relatives of donors. He exhorted everyone to be the messengers of GLODAS (Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society) and carry the word to their families to make it a mass movement to extend helping hand to the needy.
The school management committee expressed its heart felt gratitude to Dr.B.S. Aulakh and applauded the efforts of the students for sensitizing people about organ donation.
