27th ‘Road Safety Week’ is being observed across our country from 10th January to 16th January 2016. Working in the same direction, a motivational interactive session on ‘Road Safety’ was organised in the school today with joint efforts of Dr. Richa Agnihotri, ACP (Traffic) Ludhiana, NGO ‘YUVA’ and Sankara Eye Hospital.
Dr. Richa Agnihotri stressed upon the need to follow the traffic rules and to develop the culture of road safety in order to avoid accidents and to save precious lives.
Mr. Kumar Gaurav, Mr. Rahul Verma and Mr. Bharat Bhushan – the representatives of NGO YUVA educated approx. 700 students of classes IX, X and XI about the need to avoid certain traffic hazards on the road.
Sub-Inspector Mr. Sukhdev Singh (In-charge of traffic education cell) delivered an awareness talk in which he apprised the students and the drivers of the road-safety norms as every year many precious lives are lost due to the negligence on the part of people. He also stressed upon the need of proper health checkups of the drivers to ensure their alertness and physical fitness.
ACP Dr. Richa Agnihotri and the representatives of NGO-YUVA answered the queries of the students in a very convincing manner. Dr. Binny John Abrahm, Unit head of Sankara Hospital and Dr. Singhal, from Fortis Hospital were also a part of interactive session with the students. A free medical camp was also organized for the bus drivers of the school where they were examined for their vision ability as it plays a vital role in driving. Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Joy Dev from Sankara eye hospital conducted the check-up. A Poster making competition on the theme ‘Road Safety’ was also organised in the school for the classes VI to X, where the students put forth their ideas very effectively.
The Principal of the school Mrs. J.K. Sidhu thanked the guests of the day for their motivational and informative interaction with the students and assured that school would follow their valuable advice in letter and spirit in order to ensure the safety of the road users.
