Jalandhar Zone Lifts Over-all Trophy at DAV National Sports

D.A.V National Sports- Punjab Zone (Girls) concluded today which were organized under the able leadership of the principal of the school, Mrs. J.K.Sidhu.

In this two-day event, 600 students from four clusters which include Jalandhar zone, Patiala zone, Bathinda zone and Amritsar zone participated in 21 disciplines. These games have now been affiliated with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). This would help the players to give them ample opportunities to carve a bright future for themselves. The glittering closing ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest Sh. G. K. Singh, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana who was accorded a warm welcome by the principal of the host school, Mrs. J.K.Sidhu. Also present on the occasion were Padam Bhushan, Dr. S.S. Johl, Vice Chairman of LMC, and the Zonal Commissioner Mr. Kamlesh Bansal. The bevy of the events for the day included Volleyball, Yoga, Judo, Athletics, Kabaddi, Swimming, Archery and Gymnastics. The participants drew hearty applause from the crowd, a befitting appreciation for their strenuous efforts. The event was a perfect display of courage, skill and temperament exhibited by the participants.  A neck-to-neck competition was seen in almost all the matches. Kanwarbir Kaur of DAV International School, Amritsar was adjudged the Best Athlete and the Best Swimmer award was bagged by Sanchi Suri of Police DAVPS, Jalandhar. The Overall Trophy was clinched by Jalandhar Zone. Amidst thunderous applause, the Chief Guest gave away the prizes to the winners. While addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest lauded the efforts of the players and congratulated the winners. He exhorted them to further work hard and bring laurels for their institutions.  He appreciated the efforts put up by the participants of the cultural programme. The Chief Guest stressed upon the need to organize such events from time to time as it will help in shaping the future sports persons. He urged them to carry the rich legacy of DAV to greater heights. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Ravi Kant Gupta, LMC member. The sporting extravaganza was drawn to a close with the ceremonial lowering of the flag. This sports event for girl reiterated the commitment of the DAVites to provide equal opportunity for girls to excel in all spheres of life and to make a mark of their own.
