‘Odissi’ Dancer holds the students spell bound

SPIC MACAY (Society for promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) conducted an ‘Odissi’ dance performance in school today. Geeta Mahalik, a ‘Padma Shri’ awardee and a renowned Indian Odissi dancer created magical moments in the school. She was supported by Sh. Prashant Moharana, Sh. Prashant Behera and Sh. Dheeraj Pandey as accompanists. The guests of honour present on the occasion were Dr.S.S.Johl (Vice-Chairman of LMC), Sh.Atul Talwar and Mrs. Neelam Kapoor (Members of SPIC MACAY, Ludhiana Chapter), Mrs. Manjit  Sodia (retired Principal of G.C.W, Ludhiana) and Mrs. J.P Kalsi (retired Prof. of Physics at G.C.W, Ludhiana).

Ms. Geeta Mahalik is one of the finest exponents of the Indian classical dance form of ‘Odissi’, the oldest among the eight Indian classical dance forms. The Govt. of India honoured her in 2014, with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award for her service to the field of art and culture. She has participated in almost all the dance festivals held in India. With her outstanding performance, she mesmerized the audience under the spell of her art. The students of class VIII, IX applauded her by giving standing ovation. A cheerful personality, with great ability to inspire, caused one and all fall in love with ‘Odissi’. The dancer also held an interactive session with the students wherein the students put forth their queries about different kinds of dance forms which were lovingly answered by her.

The Principal of the school Mrs. J.K.Sidhu thanked the dancer for her spectacular performance and for sparing her valuable time to be amongst them.
