Teej festival marks the significance of monsoon and is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva. This traditional festival was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at D.A.V Public School, B.R.S Nagar, Ludhiana. Mrs. Sukhjeet Grewal was the guest of honour on this occasion. The students came dressed in traditional outfits. The swings in the school were decorated beautifully with scented flowers. The children danced blissfully to the tunes of Punjabi music.
'Giddha and Bhangra' presented by the students added colour to the occasion as the overcast sky provided a colourful canvas to the celebration meant to welcome 'Savana', the month of rain, with which the festival is associated. 'Mehandi Application , Paranda Braiding' and 'Miss Teej ' competitions organised especially for the girl students of senior classes added flavour to the programme. Shagunpreet Kaur was declared 'Miss Teej' and Aastha and Vanshika won 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In 'Mehandi Application Competition',Vaishali, Ankita and Shruti bagged 1st , 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively whereas Simran Kaur, Anushka and Aishpreet bagged 1st , 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively in 'Paranda Braiding'.
Principal Mrs. J.K. Sidhu was overwhelmed with the preparations and creativity of the students. She said that by participating in such traditional festivals, we stay connected to our rich culture, tradition and heritage. She appreciated the knowledge of the students regarding traditional goods and practices which is the proof of the youth staying connected to the roots and carrying the rich legacy ahead.
