The world has been reduced to a global village in this age of technology which on one side has added ease to our lives but on the other side has played havoc with the mother earth which requires immediate attention of the people around the world. The goals provided by United Nations have ignited the fertile minds of the youngsters to take up the role of responsible stewards of the planet earth.
DAVMUN’ 16 conference where more than 300 student delegates from premier institutes of Punjab and Chandigarh came together today to delve deep into issues pertaining to mother earth and role of citizens and their respective governments to bring about a harmonious, sustainable development and conducive environment to create a better planet to live in.
The inauagural ceremony began with a formal floral welcome of the Chief Guest, Padam Bhushan Dr. S.S. Johl, Chancellor Central University, Bathinda, Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma, Director (Colleges), DAVCMC, New Delhi, Dr. B.B. Sharma, Manager cum RD, Ludhiana Zone, Mr. Darshan Arora, Director, Ludhiana Citizens Council and worthy members of local Managing Committee, followed by a colourful cultural programme depicting unity in the world. The message of preserving the five basic elements of the universe communicated through a dance stole the hearts of the audience.
In her welcome address, Principal Mrs. J.K. Sidhu reminded the delegates of the contribution of the youth icons in bringing change in the system. While quoting the names of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Kartaar Singh Sarabha and Subhash Chandra Bose, she highlighted their contribution in the freedom of India. She asked the students delegates to derive inspirations from Malala-Yousafzai who is continuously striving for the education of the women.
Padam Bhushan Dr. S.S. Johl, Chancellor Central University, Bathinda in his address urged the young and responsible caretakers of tomorrow to play their role with utmost sincerity to come out with rational and practical solutions for tackling diverse issues like atrocities on common people, violence and economic backwardness arising due to global imbalance and climate changes. He also exorted the students to unite to save the world from all sorts of exigencies. He said that DAVMUN was a great educational experience being opened up to the students who are to work for bringing peace and harmony and treat the humanity as one unit.
Principal Mrs. J.K. Sidhu, also welcomed the delegates and their accompanying teachers who had come prepared for this great venture with the hope of going back with concrete solutions for global issues.
