With the onset of the summer season the skin diseases are bound to trouble especially those away from the comfort of AC. With the aim of apprising the children about protection from skin diseases the school invited Dr. Ruchi Mutneja M.D. Dermatology from Raghunath Hospital to deliver a talk on Common Skin Problems in children and Teenagers as they remain outdoors for a major chunk of the day.

Dr. Ruchi started her talk by asking the students about some of the problems that they face during summer season and appreciated the knowledge of the students about skin diseases and care required. She unraveled some of the myths regarding UV Rays, Sunscreen application and Vitamin D deficiency. She started with the importance of personal hygiene to not only avoid minor skin problems but also for the general well being. She stressed upon the intake of healthy food and to avoid fast food for having glowing and healthy skin. She showed informative slides contagious skin diseases to enlighten the students and prepare them to be wise enough t o take timely precautions.

Pimple and acne are the common problems of the teenagers and Dr. Ruchi while talking about hormonal changes told them to accept these instead of creating a fuss. She also told them about some of the over the counter applications which can be safely used to ward off the problems. A questionnaire to know about the skin and hair problems was also given to the students to answer and a brochure on hair care and sunscreen application were part of the handouts given to the students. Towards the end Dr. Ruchi answered the queries of the young students especially regarding acne treatment, fungal and viral infections.

Principal Mrs. J.K. Sidhu thanked Dr. Ruchi for extending her helping hand in warding off the skin problems especially amongst the adolescents. She also told the students to use the tips given by the expert dermatologist to have flawless skin and good hair.
